    The social initiatives of Hemafund

It's hard to imagine a modern company that does not initiate social projects. After all, knowledge, experience, and a portion of resources must necessarily be directed for the benefit of society. Back in 2009, Hemafund initiated a series of programs for the use of umbilical cord blood. These programs combined the training of doctors and the development and implementation of innovative treatment methods using stem cells on a free-of-charge basis:
    • The most famous was the KorDi program, which received international recognition and became official in Ukraine. Hundreds of Ukrainian babies with congenital heart defects require surgery using donor blood in the first hours of life. Thanks to KorDi, it became possible to use one's own umbilical cord blood instead of donor blood. This helps to avoid infection and inflammation from the transfusion of adult blood; quickly recover due to fetal hemoglobin and stem cells; to prevent hypoxia and disability from a long wait for surgery. In the first years, Hemafund completely took over the implementation of the project. This program currently saves up to 50% of budget funds for recovery after a child's surgery.
    • Subsequently, a similar project was implemented for children with Spina Bifida. Currently, such treatment is available at Ohmatdyt (a specialized children's hospital). All costs associated with collection, processing, and logistics are borne by Hemafund.
In 2020, Hemafund initiated support for families with a child suffering from oncological hematological diseases. According to global practices, family members often become donors of stem cells for treating such conditions. Therefore, when such a family is expecting another child, it is crucial to preserve its umbilical cord blood. If parents approach Hemafund in time, the entire procedure of preserving umbilical cord blood for 18 years is free for them. If there is an older child in the family with other diseases that can be treated with cell therapy (such as neurological disorders, autism, cerebral palsy), the family is guaranteed to receive the maximum discount on all Hemafund services. To take advantage of one of the social programs, it is necessary to contact Hemafund on time. It is advisable to do this by the 36th week of pregnancy to have time for thorough preparation (possibly undergo additional examinations) and to organize the process of preserving or processing the biological material. Since 2014, Hemafund has offered special terms for the services to military families and volunteers defending Ukraine in combat zones:
    • A 20% discount plus 1 year of free storage on primary packages for processing and preserving umbilical cord blood, umbilical cord, and placenta.
    • For families already clients of Hemafund, annual storage is extended for free.
    • For families where a child has lost a parent due to combat actions, Hemafund extends the storage of the material until the child reaches adulthood for free*. To amend the storage terms, it is necessary to contact the customer service department by sending a request to client@hemafund.com or calling the hotline at +38 098 496 09 26.
    • A 20% discount plus 1 year of free storage on primary packages for obtaining mesenchymal stromal cells from adipose tissue or skin.
    • Free preparation of a medicine from preserved cells for injection and logistics to a medical facility in Ukraine if a military member needs treatment.
Hemafund also continues educational activities. Doctors, medical college and university students, and schoolchildren can visit the biotechnological complex, interact with specialists, and see the production processes firsthand. Hemafund invites doctors-innovators and scientists to join in creating new social initiatives, as we all are responsible for the healthy future of our society.
